Truth or Dare - Embarrassing review or Halloween Costume

Hi!

Can you believe its November already? My first semester of college is certainly speeding by.

The meme Truth or Dare was created by the blogger Jenn Does Books
Every week there will be a new Truth or Dare to answer.

This week:

Truth

Tell about the worst/most embarrassing review you ever written.

or

Dare

Did you dress as a fictional character for Halloween? Share your photos with us.

Since I dislike wearing costumes, I chose Truth. I still cannot wait to see other people's creations.

My most embarrassing review was my Redheads are Soulless by Heather White review. Why? Because of this small part that I deleted from my review.

I always was envious of redheads and the redheads in the book Redheads Are Soulless are definitely worth the emotion of jealousy. They have amazing powers. Sofia, the main character, for example, can break objects with her mind. Robbie is an awesome guitar player. Jason can heal bruises as quick as my dog can run around my backyard.

Sofia, Robbie and Jason are all redheads with amazing powers!

I later learned from someone that Robbie and Jason were actually not redheads. I am really embarrass to admit I made a mistake and did not read the book closely enough to recognize the characters appearance. I wish I checked the character's appearance instead of assuming they were red-heads.

I just tend to ignore physical appearances of characters. When I read, I usually do not really care. I tend to consider characters personalities. In contradiction, sometimes when I do consider appearances I create my own. Before noting that Balthazar from my favorite series from ninth grade, Evernight by Claudia Gray, was a blond from a uncountable re-read, I always pictured Balthazar as brunette Cory Moneteith. Mostly because my song for Balthazar is Can't Stop This Feeling Anymore by REO Speedwagon, which Cory sang on Glee's pilot.

I also find this review missed a heartfelt tone.

Thanks for reading!

  1. I totally get that! I never pay the closest attention to features unless I am really into the book.

    Fabulous post! <33

  2. Aww sometimes I mess up with my reviews all the time, I usually write my reviews straight after reading a book, and once I didn't so this and wrote the wrong name for one of the characters, it was completely different to the original name too, luckily I checked the book before posting my review!

  3. I'm the same way when I read! It just doesn't seem very important and I never really picture them as anything more than just black and white images or blurs anyway!
Thanks for sharing this with us, I'm sure we all have bad reviews that we're unhappy with.

  4. I've called characters by the wrong names in reviews before Rachel! Then someone points it out and I scramble to fix it and pretend it didn't happen. Oops.

If I had to pick this question, it would be my very first review. I had no idea what I was doing or what to talk about and it's just all over the place. Hehe:)

  5. Haha I totally get what you mean! I almost NEVER take not of a character's appearance unless a representation of them shows up on the cover or their physical features are shoved down my throat over and over lol.

    Thanks for sharing!

  6. Oh, I can totally relate to this--I rarely pay attention to physical appearances too, and in fact get kind of annoyed when some characters are described in too much detail or their physical traits pointed out too often. And I can understand your mortification, too! We've all made similar mistakes, I don't think it's anything to get too crazed over. :)

  7. You are so not alone! I like taking notes about the location, and age of characters but I don't really care about what they look like and I find it annoying when certain features are repeated over and over again eg someone having long brown hair

  8. There are SO worse things than making such a mistake in one of your reviews! Those happen to all of us. I mean, I rutinely misspell names of characters because I'm a) horrible with names and b) my brain tends to memorize odd spellings wrong.

  9. Hah, I can definitely relate to this one! I sometimes get comments on older reviews and end up reading through them again. My first thought is nearly always "Really?! Did I really write that?" It's embarrassing to say the least. And I am the same when it comes to character appearances. I rarely pay attention to them either. Once I've already formed an image in my head (regardless of what the words actually tell me), there isn't much that can change it. :)
